使用同一名词的反复,表示从该名词的性质考虑,理所当然地…的意思;后面引发出因其而产生的必然结果;但结果性质如何,不听完最后的部分也是难以判断的;如例(1),从例句的后半句味も格別だ/所以味道也非常特别来看,可以知道这里讲的材料一定是特别好的材料;但如果说成素材が素材だけに、大した料理はできやしない/从他用的材料就知道他做不出什么好菜,又可理解为这里讲的材料是非常坏的材料;又如例(2)表示的是非常方便,人们很容易去的地方,可到了例(3)则相反,表示的是非常不方便,很难去的地方;例(5)的ことがことだけに,是一种惯用表达方式,在这里表示的意思是因为事情非同小可;
Repetition of the same noun indicates that a certain outcome is natural or inevitable, considering the characteristics of that noun. NがNだけに is followed by a description of the natural or inevitable outcome. The listener/reader does not know the exact nature of the noun’s characteristics until s/he reaches the description in the latter part of the sentence. For example, in (1), the description 味も格別だ (exceptionally tasty) tells us the ingredients are good. However, in the sentence 素材が素材だけに大した料理はできやしない (Because the ingredients are what they are, the food can’t be very good), the interpretation is that the ingredients are bad. (2) means a place that is conveniently located and easy to get to. On the other hand, (3) means a place that is inconveniently located and hard to get to. ことがことだけに in (5) is an idiomatic expression. In this example, it means “because this situation is serious.”
