接对方的话,用于完全没有那种事的全面否定,或者表示某一方面是那样的,但是并非100%全是那样的意见有所保留的断定;例(1),(2)是前者的例;例(3),(4)是后者的例;
ないことはない is used in response to a statement an interlocutor has made, either to deny the statement completely, with the meaning “that is not at all the case,” or to defer making a firm judgment, with the meaning “that is partly true/possible, but not necessarily 100% so.” (1) and (2) are instances of the former use, and (3) and (4) of the latter.
分别解释一下的话,例(1)是接到A的不能的发话,B则说不是不能,也就是能的意思; 例(3)是未必能,即也有不能的时候的意思;
More precisely, in (1) B responds to A’s negative statement, which means “I can’t do this,” by saying, “it’s not impossible for you to do it,” implying that B thinks A actually can do it. On the other hand, in (3), B’s response means “I can do it, but I won’t guarantee it,” which implies “there is a possibility that I can’t do it.”
后者的用法可换为ないこともない,前者则不能替换;
The latter usage of ないことはない (above) can be rephrased as ないこともない. However, this is not possible for the former usage.
